                                                               FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

DO YOU EMCEE (MASTER OF CEREMONIES?

A. Absolutely - I do more than just play music I Emcee and handle all announcements and introductions. I also coordinate the event and take care of all the little details (like making sure the caterer has the champagne glasses filled before we announce the best man toast), etc

DO YOU CHARGE FOR TRAVEL , SET UP TIME OR BREAK-DOWN TIME?

A)Yes , I have  to charge  for travel time  especially when it's out of state but  if it's within my normal trading area then No.

There is never a charge for Set-up or Break-down time.

WHAT DO YOU REQUIRE ?

A. A table , electricity and an 8x8 area adjacent to the dance floor. If it's going to be an outdoor event, then I need protection from the elements.

My friend?s son is a DJ . Why should I hire you?

A. A DJ can make or break an event. A DJ is on the average about 5% of the cost of a wedding budget but is conceivably the most important part of a successful wedding. We can?t stress this enough. You need a seasoned DJ with ample wedding experience. Furthermore, if your DJ is too young he will not have the knowledge of the vast types and genres of music available.

Why can?t we just setup an IPOD or stereo system ?

A. Many reasons. Most importantly a good dj/emcee not only plays music and does announcements and introductions they also coordinate the event to keep it on schedule and make sure you don?t run out of time before all the things you want to happen take place. A good dj also "works" the crowd by playing certain songs and encouraging the crowd to be active and be involved and get them on the dance floor. Home stereos are not made for travel. IPOD's have  many limitations especially when making requests and playing to a diverse audience. The system might not work once you get it there. It's difficult for your guest to make request. Some music because of language or content is not suitable for an event like a wedding and your dj knows this to avoid awkward situations. The cd's often skip or don?t play and some one would have to pay attention to this and fix it.

Probably, the biggest reason of all is that an experienced DJ is also an AUDIO ENGINEER who knows his equipment inside and out in the event of a failure. Back up equipment is great  to have but what if the problem isn't the equipment but the place ?

HOW FAR IN ADVANCE SHOULD I BOOK THE DJ ?

A. The obvious answer is ASAP. When you find a good dj you don?t want to wait until someone else has booked them before you call them back. In our experience about 50% of our wedding customers have booked at least one year in advance, 25% book in less than a year and 25% book in the last month (occasionally they call in a panic a week or two before the event  OOPS !

WHAT IS YOUR POLICY FOR CANCELLATIONS AND DATE CHANGES?

A. For a cancellation the deposit is held for one year and can be used for any future event. A date change is also good for up to one year.

I'VE NEVER HIRED A DJ, HOW MUCH IS THE AVERAGE TIP ?

A.  A tip should always reflect how well the DJ performed. YOU ARE NOT REQUIRED TO TIP! Weddings can be expensive and tough on the budget. THE BEST TIP IS A SIGNED REFERRAL FROM A HAPPY  Customer.

DO YOU HAVE TRADITIONAL CEREMONY MUSIC AND CAN I PICK THE MUSIC FOR THE CEREMONY?

A. Yes - We have all the traditional wedding songs, including many new remixes of those songs or you pick the music.

CAN YOU DO THE CEREMONY AT A DIFFERENT LOCATION THEN THE RECEPTION ?

A. Yes - It requires some additional work but it is an available option.

WHAT KIND OF EQUIPMENT DO YOU USE ?

A. We use only professional equipment. The equipment we use for our public shows is dedicated to that show. The equipment we use for a private shows is new and top of the line.

DO YOU TAKE REQUESTS ?

A. Yes - We bring  music  to every event on disc and a laptop  computer in case one or the other breaks down we have backup

on site.  We strongly encourage requests unless the employer says otherwise.

WHY SHOULD I CHOOSE YOUR COMPANY OVER OTHERS ?

A. I DJ/EMCEE & COORDINATE all of our events.  We don't charge for set-up or break-down time. I dress professionally and wear a tuxedo to all weddings unless the employer says not too.I can be as out going or as reserved as you wish. I am well seasoned and  extremely experienced DJ. A well-seasoned DJ is one who has a wide variety of experience in entertainment and music, running karaoke shows, being a DJ at sweet 16 parties and college parties to 75th year anniversaries. All these things create a better DJ with a better appreciation for all types of music and a sense for the crowd.  I guarantee to meet or beat any written quote  so there is no reason to hire any other DJ. Most importantly, I want your excellent referral. The referral business we get from our customers is second to none and financially speaking much less expensive than any advertising. When you hire "Steppin Out" your hiring the owner of the business not a trainee or an employee. These words say it all.
